This Australian revenge-comedy, based on a novel sharing its title, delivers a compelling story rooted in past tragedy—a revelation that doesn't fully surface until roughly two-thirds of the way through. The film centers on a woman who returns to her hometown and quickly becomes well-liked by young women eager to borrow her striking outfits for social events. Her arrival sparks division within the community, and the reason behind this animosity is gradually unveiled throughout the movie. The cinematography beautifully captures the setting, evoking a sense of the American West thanks to Australia’s climate. Kate Winslet gives a strong performance; her portrayal brought Juliette Binoche from 'Chocolat' to mind. While some viewers have described it as emotionally affecting, I didn’t experience it that way. Instead, I found it enjoyable, not eliciting outright laughter but providing a sense of pleasure and contentment during the viewing experience. Initially, I questioned whether it might be excessively praised, but watching it demonstrated that my reservations were unfounded. It's easily one of the finest Australian films released in recent memory. 8/10
