The film feels very much like a product of the nineties, reminiscent of Spielberg’s earlier work—even the music has that feel. However, experiencing it now as an adult familiar with modern technology creates a jarring disconnect. The performances were truly awful, and the story unfolded at a snail's pace. Every character seemed foolish, and events transpired in ways that felt nonsensical and overly convenient. The central storyline revolves around revealing alien existence to everyone. Instead of simply sharing irrefutable evidence online, the characters inexplicably decide that a television station in Kansas City is their sole recourse. There’s one particularly baffling moment where Bono's daughter speaks with a nun on the phone and asks if she has access to a computer for research—while simultaneously holding a smartphone, set in 2026. Surely, she could have handled it herself? It just doesn’t make sense.
