If you’re familiar with ET, whether you experienced it in theaters initially or through later releases like VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, or streaming platforms, you likely already understand what to expect here. The children who were central to the original story are gone, swapped out for characters who aren't as captivating or enjoyable, supposedly to enhance believability. A face is given to the antagonist, which is a welcome touch, and the alien remains largely unseen, situated in the background throughout most of the film. Similar to Starman from 1984, there’s a stronger focus on the objects possessed by the extraterrestrial being and their motivations, shifting away from ET's more direct narrative structure. It's not an unpleasant film; it's quite good actually. However, its length is noticeable, and those who have already seen ET will recognize the familiar formula at play, though this version doesn’t offer quite as entertaining an experience.
