I really hoped Disclosure Day would be good. The idea—a government operative trying to reveal hidden contact with extraterrestrials—seemed like it could create a gripping, immediate, and timely story. What we end up with is something so out of touch with reality that it seems like the script came from people who haven't seen daylight since 1987. The biggest issue is this: if your main character needs to release classified information in 2026 or whenever the film takes place, why are we watching them figure out how to do it through a newsroom? The movie includes thumb drives and artificial intelligence, all of today's technology—and then acts like a television news broadcast is still the most important way to get something out there. It doesn’t make sense. If you want to expose government secrets, you don’t need someone like Walter Cronkite; there are much better places online to do it. The tools exist. The filmmakers just seem completely unaware of how modern information networks function. And then there's the lack of anything interesting. The bad guys have no discernible motivations—we never learn why they even want to keep this secret. The good guys have no real enthusiasm—what’s pushing them besides a general feeling that they should do something? There’s no suspense, nothing at stake that feels genuine, and no reason to care about any of the characters. It's empty. The entire movie is just empty. Disclosure Day isn’t awful; it’s worse than that—it’s dull. I hope this film stays buried!
