The premise of "Kevin," starring Keanu Reeves, initially seems too good to pass up: a promising position at a high-profile New York law firm, courtesy of Milton, played by Al Pacino. The allure of wealth and prestige begins to create tension, and along with his wife, Mary-Ann (Charlize Theron), they find themselves enjoying a luxurious lifestyle in a penthouse apartment—though their time together is gradually shrinking. She expresses a desire to return to Florida, but it becomes apparent that Kevin has developed an addiction unrelated to her. Pacino delivers a strong performance as his character's true nature and manipulative tactics are revealed; the film’s title offers a significant hint about his role. As someone who appreciates cinematic villains, I was somewhat disappointed with how things concluded. While not comparable to "Faust," it comes remarkably close to depicting an embodiment of evil—a portrayal that also examines how vanity can lead to ruin—and allowing that character to almost succeed. Reeves isn't the strongest actor in this film; he’s pleasing to look at, but his presence feels somewhat superficial. This may be partly because Pacino is so commanding and effective in his role. Despite occasional pacing issues during its nearly two-and-a-half-hour length, it remains a surprisingly engaging experience that still proves quite worthwhile.
