I’ll be upfront: I’m a big Al Pacino fan. I tend to enjoy almost anything he does, especially when he launches into a shouting match or delivers an angry speech. Those moments bring back memories of him yelling, "I'd take a flame thrower to this place," and I find myself reacting like someone spotting a meal. Keanu Reeves is also in the film, but for a significant portion of the movie, his character isn’t particularly pleasant, and he just doesn't seem right as a lawyer—too agreeable. However, he does manage to portray the necessary ego that comes with practicing law, even if it lacks a certain level of malice. It's hard to completely criticize the casting choice, not nearly as much as I would for a Dracula role. Jeffery Jones appears as well, and considering what’s come out recently, he’s perfectly suited for the part of a shady lawyer. The film was released in 1997, and the nineties had a unique approach to filmmaking that only the seventies could rival. *The Devil's Advocate* is one of those films—a standalone horror movie designed to make you think rather than launch a series, something that wouldn’t happen today, which is disappointing. I could praise its merits, but truthfully, it might have been terrible and I still would have enjoyed it because of Pacino shouting "I'm a fan of man!" It’s definitely worth seeing.
