"The Devil Wears Prada" manages to be both clever and fashionable, mixing comedic elements with dramatic undertones within the demanding world of fashion. Meryl Streep is incredibly compelling as the powerful Miranda Priestly, giving a performance that’s simultaneously frightening and fascinating, and Anne Hathaway does well portraying the protagonist trying to find her way through a bewildering new job. A key reason this film works so well is its ability to prompt consideration of what we give up in order to achieve our goals and if those sacrifices are genuinely worthwhile. The rhythm of the story feels just right, holding your attention without feeling slow, and the other actors, particularly Emily Blunt, contribute a lot with their humor and personality. What’s notable is how the film offers observations about personal development, drive, and maintaining integrity, all presented through sharp conversations and beautiful imagery. It avoids being overly moralistic but encourages you to consider how much of your identity you're prepared to alter to meet someone else’s idea of what success looks like.
