In my opinion, this is the finest film featuring Meg Ryan. It’s appealing beyond the familiar romantic comedy formula, thanks to a layer of Hollywood irony. The actors have a genuine connection, and the writing and production values are solid; importantly, it manages to sidestep sentimentality. It's a romantic comedy geared toward more mature audiences, and Meg seems to have grown into her role beautifully. William also delivers a notably bright performance. This is an overlooked but genuinely excellent movie, giving off the impression that everyone involved enjoyed themselves during filming.
