"The Dead Pool" doesn't reach the same level of acclaim or widespread appeal as "Sudden Impact" (1983), and it’s not hard to see why. While “Sudden Impact” features considerable violence—a constant stream of shootings and assaults—it also possesses a certain energy, giving the impression that the performers are genuinely invested in the project. That feeling is noticeably absent here. "The Dead Pool" frequently comes across as something of an obligation, a task Clint Eastwood seems determined to complete rapidly and effectively, seemingly just to satisfy Warner Bros. and potentially deliver them another financial success. Despite a pervasive sense of weariness throughout, it remains a briskly moving and enjoyable way to spend some time.
