It proved to be quite effective and genuinely frightening, especially when viewed within its historical context. I recall being a teenager when it was released; at that time, tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union were extremely high, and films dealing with nuclear war began to reappear for movie enthusiasts, having largely disappeared during the period dominated by disaster movies. This film stands out as an early example and one of the strongest in its category, primarily due to director Nicholas Meyer’s skill in science fiction. I really hope he had directed many more films.
