Horror movies often fall into predictable patterns, relying on jump scares and grotesque imagery with obvious makeup or special effects. This film doesn’t entirely escape that trend, feeling somewhat drawn out for the majority of its run time. There's an attempt to build suspense, but it ultimately feels like padding to artificially lengthen the movie; what unfolds in the final section introduces a plot development that likely will cause viewers to lose interest. The nature of the threat isn’t what you anticipate based on the earlier buildup. The narrative itself is passable, though familiar from many other movies—it's just presented with a new setting and different actors. While this might initially feel refreshing, it doesn't quite manage to be so. When ancient spirits are unleashed during a family picnic, they follow the family home, leading to inexplicable occurrences and prompting them to seek outside help. This sets up the final act and brings the story to its conclusion. The filmmakers claim the movie was inspired by an actual incident involving a family, which might draw some viewers in. However, those who don’t believe in such things will probably find it amusing. Featuring performances from Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell, and directed by the creator of 'Wolf Creek', the film doesn't quite reach its full potential within its genre. It’s an acceptable movie to watch, but one you won’t likely recall a week or month later. A small number of people might enjoy it, but it's impossible to predict who those individuals will be, so I can’t recommend or discourage seeing it. _4/10_
