Adapted from a book series, this project aims to launch a new fantasy franchise. The central question becomes whether it’s worthwhile. While I'm unfamiliar with the original material, I didn’t find much merit in the movie itself. It felt like another film geared toward teenagers that ultimately failed, similar to many others of its kind. An adult character, portrayed by Idris Elba, does take a significant role here. My initial reaction wasn't positive; this may simply be an introductory phase, however. Younger viewers, especially teens, might find it more appealing than adults do. The story involves a teenager experiencing peculiar dreams about another realm, which become reality when he passes through a portal into that world—a place connected to his own. He’s now being pursued by a formidable threat and joined by a gunslinger, and must figure out how to prevent an impending disaster that threatens both his world and the wider universe. The simplicity of the plot may be what held me back; there were no real surprises, just predictable tropes common in this genre. The acting was acceptable, as were the visuals, but the story is the main issue. Perhaps a sequel will improve things, so I’ll reserve judgment for now. I've also heard that an entirely new television series based on the same material is currently being developed—I hope it fares better than this film series. Overall, it’s just an average movie; not particularly good or bad. Hopefully you can decide whether to watch it or not! 5/10
