This film is significantly worse than Tim Burton's *Batman*, and it’s clear it borrows from a neo-Nazi worldview regarding violence against women. The script is so unimaginative and badly constructed that it’s hard to believe. It seems there’s a following for this kind of thing, which I can only describe as neo Nazis. Perhaps these viewers were previously hurt by romantic rejection and haven't been able to move past it. That pretty much sums up the plot: The Joker kills indiscriminately. Big deal. He’s also untouchable, portrayed as a near-god who requires another divine being to defeat him. It’s standard Hollywood fare—familiar Greek hero and villain tropes, like we see in countless other movies. What's frustrating is that people who enjoy this type of film are incredibly vocal and seem to want things their way. It's hard to accept just how many fans there are for these depressing, formulaic Hollywood productions, but looking at IMDb’s top 250 list, they account for more than half the entries. Is this because those with controlling personalities vote more often? Or do they create multiple accounts to manipulate the rankings? It's likely a combination of both, which explains why so many films on that list are essentially glorified celebrations of control. Furthermore, Batman’s sexuality is presented in an awkward way; it would be acceptable if he openly acknowledged it, but instead, he’s forced into a situation where he must choose between saving a man's life or a woman's, and he picks the man. This isn't true to the character. It's just another manufactured plot point for some sort of Nolan-inspired achievement. They aren't even trying to be discreet—they’re openly displaying their admiration for Adolf and Eva. I worry about what the world will look like if this kind of movie still has a following in fifty years. It’s possible. We might continue to see people praising hate and perpetuating it, just as we have with drug addiction and meth use for decades. It would be preferable if someone created an authentic *Batman* film with a compelling narrative and some genuine character development.
