It ranks among Fincher’s greatest achievements, even if other films of his appeal to me more. It seems that he’s practically the only filmmaker working today who could have pulled off this fascinating narrative. Certain scenes—particularly when Benjamin develops as a person, both in his relationship with Tilda Swinton's character and Cate Blanchett’s—are among the most remarkable and energizing I’ve ever witnessed on screen. I wonder how my perception of it will change upon subsequent viewings. It feels like this story will deepen in significance for me over time as I experience life and gain more understanding, allowing me to appreciate its peaks and valleys even further. That's an amazing feat for a film to accomplish—and Fincher manages it repeatedly.
