I found myself liking this somewhat unbelievable narrative about someone’s feelings for another person. The young character of "Ardal" (played by Oran Creagh) develops an infatuation with his second grade teacher, "Miss Purdy" (Olga Wehrly), and after questioning his parents, decides he will marry her in 2015! A trip to the shops complicates things when he sees her wearing an engagement ring from her boyfriend (Rory Keenan). "Ardal" is upset, but then comes up with a plan: he'll challenge the man to a duel for her hand. The boyfriend – who seems rather foolish, really – takes it as a joke, or does he? Creagh gives a pretty captivating performance as the boy consumed by love, and there’s a genuinely amusing scene at the dinner table where he displays an unsettling level of maturity for an eight-year-old! It's written in a charming way, even though it loses some momentum toward the conclusion. I think everyone has experienced a crush at some point where they would have done practically anything to make it happen.
