Breck Eisner’s direction brings us a truly unsettling, gripping, and remarkable zombie movie amidst countless similar stories. *The Crazies* isn't like other films in the genre because those who are infected don’t simply become aimless, staggering figures. Rather, these previously ordinary people—farmers and quiet town residents—transform into detached, violent killers, employing any available tool to increase the death toll. The film initially unfolds at a measured pace, but steadily escalates the tension as military forces try to contain the outbreak, effectively imprisoning the remaining survivors alongside the deranged infected. Timothy Olyphant delivers an impressive and believable portrayal of the sheriff struggling to protect his family while facing former friends and neighbors now consumed by madness.
