It’s hard to overstate how remarkable and emotionally devastating this film is. While my exposure to Soviet movies has been limited, everything I’ve encountered so far suggests a consistently high quality. It definitely sparks a desire to explore their body of work more thoroughly. If you have any interest in either Soviet cinema or war stories—particularly those told from the viewpoint of civilians—this one is absolutely necessary viewing. It's important to recognize that those not directly fighting can experience trauma just as profoundly as those on the front lines.
