The artistry and creativity of Aleksandr Petrov are remarkable once more. A boy tells us about his life alongside his family’s cow. They are impoverished, struggling to survive, and the animal is essential to their existence. It gives them milk, helps with plowing, and when it has a calf, that's sold so they can eat. The boy’s fondness for the cow is very clear, and as the story progresses, we witness how important it has been in his development—offering a sense of security during difficult times. There’s a hint of Dickens in the drawing style; the brushwork creates a grainy, earthy, and genuine appearance that strongly reflects the family's simple way of life, or perhaps their struggle to survive. It feels as though much of it could be a series of portraits, which work together beautifully for about ten minutes of moving drama.
