It was an incredibly unpleasant experience to sit through that movie. Almost immediately, from the very beginning, you can anticipate exactly where *The Country Bears* is headed—both in terms of the story and the idea behind the bears themselves. That’s assuming you didn't already figure it out just by looking at the promotional image. As I always do, I attempted to locate any redeeming qualities... Well. If pressed to identify something positive, it would be one or two songs that aren't completely awful; there's also a brief appearance from a British musician, I suppose. As you can probably tell, it’s not good at all. However, where does one even begin with the criticisms? The bears themselves are a major problem. Putting people in costumes almost always detracts from everything else, and these characters have very little emotional range, making it impossible to connect with them. The sound quality for their voices, and other parts of the film, is also quite poor. No one in the cast makes much of an impression, aside from Christopher Walken (as Reed)—but that's only due to his celebrity, not because of his performance. The storyline feels incredibly predictable and uninspired; they don’t even try to mislead the audience, instead trying to manufacture a sentimental narrative that completely fails to resonate. I generally believe awarding a film one star is too severe, but this truly warrants it. Out of the 1,106 films I've watched so far, this is only the fifth time I’ve given something such a low rating. It was genuinely terrible.
