Scott Wiper seemed to think more people would be interested in watching a broadcast of ten prisoners battling each other until someone dies on an island, much like WWE misjudged how many viewers a film about such a broadcast would attract. At least the live stream—even if it’s supposed to last thirty hours—probably doesn't interrupt the fights with scenes showing what’s happening elsewhere, with characters who aren’t even on the island; it feels like *Jurassic Park* decided to show us something else entirely, somewhere dinosaurs weren't. “Jack Conrad [Steve Austin] is facing the death penalty in a corrupt Central American [specifically, Salvadoran] prison” (according to IMDb). The prison system is so deeply flawed that Jack would be the first person executed in El Salvador since the early 1970s. I’m not sure about it being cruel, but that would certainly be an uncommon form of punishment. Jack avoids this fate thanks to Ian Breckel (Robert Mammone), a "billionaire" television producer, and is transported to a remote island where he has to fight to the death against nine other convicted murderers from various countries. Each person wears an ankle bracelet/time bomb with a digital display counting down the aforementioned thirty hours. These bombs are about as original as it gets, particularly since they can be triggered by removing a pin; however, the actual deaths on screen aren't very impressive, and even if they were handled better, the concept would become tiresome quickly, given that it’s apparently the most frequent way people die in this scenario (responsible for 30% of fatalities among participants). What’s truly disappointing is that Wiper wasted a chance to have one of the characters cut off his own foot and use it as an explosive device (Nathan Jones also appears in this movie, because one bald former professional wrestler wasn't sufficient).
