The story centers around the Puccio family, an ordinary middle-class group who committed shockingly cruel acts. They were involved in kidnapping people for ransom, but things didn’t go as planned. Details about how long they continued their activities and what ultimately happened are revealed later on. Argentina submitted this film for last year's Oscars, which seems like a misguided choice. It also became the highest-grossing movie locally. The filmmaking is undeniably strong, particularly the direction and screenplay. You could watch it simply to learn the facts, because its message leaves you feeling uneasy. Running close to 100 minutes, it’s consistently dark in tone, though there's a touch of romance mixed in. The actors performed well, even portraying unlikeable characters. There are many films with a similar grim atmosphere that can still be entertaining, even when the characters are doing bad things; sometimes you find yourself wanting them to succeed, whether it’s a heist or a revenge plot. However, I've started to question supporting movies like this because of their serious and disturbing nature. It recently happened with the Chilean film 'The Club,' which left me feeling repulsed. While I acknowledge the skill involved in making it, I think this would have been better suited as a documentary. The storytelling felt one-sided, focusing entirely on the family's perspective. If the story had explored how the police or the victim’s families dealt with events, that would have created a completely different movie—one I might have enjoyed more.
