It’s an okay film, nothing I'm eager to revisit, and I don’t feel comfortable suggesting it to others. Maybe my dislike of Kurt Russell is at fault; his tendency to bring his own personality into the role of Santa Claus diminishes the wonder of the character for me, and I find this version of Santa Claus unconvincing and almost unsuitable. The general storyline and writing are acceptable, but there are some peculiar decisions made throughout, especially regarding the level of danger in the situations the characters face. I also didn't care for the elves; they resemble furry Smurfs. What stood out was Darby Camp’s ability to hold a movie together. Even with all that occurs, she delivers a performance, largely as an innocent child full of wonder, and she brings the necessary sense of youthful joy to the story.
