Chopin and Liszt add significantly to this delightful “Tom and Jerry” short, with Chopin dressed up nicely as he attempts to showcase his abilities. However, his small adversary is asleep inside the piano, and annoyed by being abruptly roused, decides to make sure he’s noticed. With "Tom" at the keys and "Jerry" within the instrument's strings, a diverting back-and-forth begins where triumph repeatedly slips from each of their grasp. It’s hard to say who will ultimately win, but the carefully crafted shifts in their competition create genuinely amusing eight minutes that could very well be my top pick among these cartoon characters. Those watching certainly received good value for their ticket – and we do too. Really excellent.
