The film then centers on her parents' desperate hope for her return even after eight years have passed. Both the police and the parents search tirelessly for any sign that she might still be alive. Whether it concludes with a happy or sad resolution remains to be seen. Perhaps the director drew inspiration from a previous work of his, one also based on true events—though that film had a different outcome. These kinds of movies can be unsettling, especially if you have a family. I believe consistently watching them serves as a reminder about potential weaknesses in our family’s safety. No matter how safe a country seems, these types of incidents can occur unexpectedly. The movie has significant ambition, and I wanted to enjoy it more than I did because they didn't execute the film well. It wasn't a terrible movie, just poorly made. The characters and initial concept showed promise, but the development let everything down. Close to 75 per cent of the runtime felt tedious. Everything essential to understanding the story is revealed within the first 15 minutes and the final 30, with the intervening portion wasted on unnecessary expansion. Consequently, the film didn’t live up to its potential—not in terms of the message it conveys, which is the crucial aspect. The acting wasn't uniformly strong; Ryan Reynolds stood out as the best performer. The rest were adequate, although Rosario Dawson was also quite good. I disliked the presentation style; the jumps between the eight-year timeframe felt disjointed and detrimental to the film. It not only confused me but gained nothing from this approach. Typically, a narrative structure like that is used to create suspense and keep audiences guessing until the end, but it didn't function effectively here. Aside from that, the movie was better than some critics suggest, and I still recommend it for adults due to its subject matter. _6/10_
