This reimagining of The Caller, originally released in 2011, presents an intriguing narrative centered on communication spanning different points in time, with consequences felt immediately in the present. Although this premise generates a sense of anticipation, it also leads to significant problems with how things make sense—things like contradictions in recollections and unexpected returns from the dead—that feel at odds with typical rules about time travel. Even so, the movie is elevated by excellent acting, notably Jong Seo’s performance, and impressive visuals, although the scene following the credits lessens the impact of what might have been a truly resonant conclusion.
