I really wanted to like 'The Cable Guy'. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. While I generally enjoy Jim Carrey’s films, this one felt genuinely bad—the first of his movies I’ve thought was poorly made. It also left me feeling a bit off, especially because the two main characters are difficult to like. There wasn't anything about it that resonated with me, even though there's a recognizable group of actors involved. As mentioned earlier regarding Carrey, I don’t have any issues with Matthew Broderick or Leslie Mann either. There are other well-known performers throughout the film as well, including Owen Wilson, Jack Black, and Ben Stiller (who also directed). Bob Odenkirk shows up too. Despite all of them being present, it's still frustrating. I’m typically willing to give a movie a chance based on its cast, so my strong dislike for this one speaks volumes. The story just felt like a short film that had been padded out to ninety minutes. You can figure out where things are headed almost immediately, which is especially problematic because it doesn't offer the audience (or maybe just me) any incentive to keep watching. The karaoke sequence featuring "Somebody to Love" is probably the only part I might recall favorably. Overall, this was an annoying and disappointing experience.
