There are elements of *The Boxtrolls* that appealed to me, though I ultimately thought it progressed at a leisurely pace. I found the Boxtrolls themselves quite enjoyable; their appearance and demeanor were well-executed. The performances of Ben Kingsley as Archibald and the bodyguards, Messrs Trout (Nick Frost) and Pickles (Richard Ayoade), were commendable, along with Jared Harris’s portrayal of Lord Charles Portley-Rind. However, I appreciated these characters individually more than collectively. Frost and Ayoade, despite playing similar roles, didn't establish a sense of rapport. Similarly, while I acknowledge the talent of Isaac Hempstead Wright and Elle Fanning, I wasn't convinced their voices were right for Eggs and Winnie, respectively. The stop-motion animation was well done, but the story felt slow; the conclusion in particular seemed to linger longer than necessary. It’s a merely adequate film, as far as I can tell.
