I’ve consistently enjoyed Melissa McCarthy’s movies even when many people dismissed them, but this one feels quite different. I don't want to fault her; she always puts everything into her work, and that’s true here as well. The real problem was the script—it really failed her. It’s watchable because of her performance, but without her, it would be nearly impossible to get through. The preview seemed much more promising than what ended up on screen. They've labeled it a comedy, yet generating laughter is difficult; getting even a small smile feels like a challenge. There are considerably more drawbacks than positives. I watched it hoping to find that the criticisms were unfounded, but ultimately, I was proven wrong. This marks the second time this director and McCarthy have collaborated on a film, as they’re a real-life couple. While I preferred ‘Tammy,’ this one didn't measure up, and I am hopeful for their next project, which I expect will be more engaging than these two. She tends to work with large ensembles rather than carrying a movie solo, so whenever a new film of hers is announced, I’m interested in seeing who her co-stars are. Kristen Bell wasn't disappointing, and Peter Dinklage gave a solid performance as well. The cast was well chosen, but they were all let down by the script or their roles. Just because I didn't enjoy it doesn't mean I won't suggest it to others; it simply didn’t resonate with me personally, though it might appeal to you. So, proceed with caution when deciding whether to view this film. 3/10
