The film adapts a short story by Stephen King, but doesn’t offer anything fresh, adhering to the formula common in roughly eighty percent of horror films. The problem isn't with Stephen King's style—which is well-recognized now—but with how that style translates to the screenplay. It lacked any easily noticeable startling moments. I had hoped for more from Rob Savage ("The Host," which I still plan to watch), but this wasn’t it. The performers are adequate in their parts, though not particularly memorable. It's increasingly difficult to discover a horror movie that manages to innovate in some way. Using a real person as the basis for the horror didn’t provide any assistance either, because any sense of how to overcome it (which isn't very challenging) is obscured by…and yes, it left the closet door slightly ajar during one scene. I’m giving this film a 5.0 out of 10.0 / C.
