I’d been wanting to see this movie since its release, but only just got around to it. I don't watch as many Spanish films as I do French or German ones; I tend to be selective and wait a while before watching something, which is why you don’t often see my lowest-rated reviews. It feels like a waste of time reviewing movies that aren’t good. Better late than never, and now I'm glad I waited. The film was enjoyable, and I hoped it would become one of my favorites from the year it came out, but some things prevented me from feeling that way. It started casually, as many thriller films do. It gradually introduces what’s going on, presents the characters in a straightforward manner, and then builds suspense. The pace quickens as more clues are revealed. As a viewer, you might start to piece things together and form theories, but it's not easy because the film doesn't give anything away readily. Some viewers today can be overly critical, especially after films like 'The Sixth Sense' and 'The Shawshank Redemption.' So this movie carefully maintains that feeling of tension throughout. > "I close my eyes and you're still with me." It wasn’t until the final act, when the twist occurs, that I realized how far off base I was. The first two acts and the ending felt completely separate in terms of storytelling, except for the characters connecting them. The entire film centers on a dead body disappearing from a morgue. The deceased woman's husband, a police officer, and others try to solve the mystery overnight. Flashbacks provide necessary background information as the situation becomes more intense. I initially thought 'Gone Girl' was inspired by the first half of this movie. After looking into it, I learned that film was based on a novel with the same title, published around the same time as this one. They are very similar, but the endings diverge and change the overall meaning of the film. As someone who enjoys movies, I had been collecting potential criticisms for my review, but the movie held onto those until the final dialogue, then resolved them, leaving me with nothing to complain about. There's no room for second-guessing the ending because it’s distinct from the rest of the film and clearly states what needs to happen. This means you don't need to search for flaws beyond simply accepting things as they are. The only decision is whether or not you liked the movie, and like I said earlier, I did enjoy it, but it didn't become a favorite, and I think I’ve explained why throughout this review. I definitely recommend it to those looking for a suspense-thriller. 8/10
