The Black Phone manages to effectively combine the feeling of being held against one’s will with supernatural occurrences. The film initially establishes the central figures in a way that allows viewers to connect with them and become invested in their well-being. While some aspects of the storyline felt somewhat suspect, these issues were relatively small and didn't significantly detract from my engagement. The acting was consistently strong; Ethan Hawke delivers an impressive performance despite his restricted screen presence. He portrays the Grabber’s psychological state with a subtlety that is genuinely unsettling. The younger actors also performed admirably, particularly during scenes demanding emotional depth. I did notice some stiffness in the performances of certain classmates early on. Ultimately, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and it's clear evidence of the skill of those involved in bringing such an imaginative thriller to life from its original short story form. **Verdict:** _Great_
