It’s not deserving of all the criticism it gets, honestly! Think of it as a lesser version of those "Meg" films, except Josh Lucas is doing the heroic work instead of Jason Statham. His character and his family get stuck on an old oil rig near Baja California, where they realize a creature with a massive fin—seriously, like a tennis court in size—is hunting and hungry. After settling in, “Paul” realizes most of the workers have already left, and those who remain are terrified of this enormous sea monster. They also think it’s a punishment from their gods for taking what doesn't belong to them, and they expect to be next. To give credit where it's due, the conclusion is somewhat surprising, but the fact that this giant fish appears large enough to swallow a bus at one point, only to be scared off by a child’s kick, really hurts its believability. It's clear this movie borrows heavily from other sources and doesn’t offer anything new; it's pretty forgettable overall, and I almost felt sorry for the guy featured on the promotional poster.
