**Honestly, it’s such a disappointing and nonsensical jumble.** I tend to be pretty understanding when it comes to horror movies; I can usually appreciate the basic concept and overlook plot problems if the overall viewing experience is enjoyable, with a good atmosphere and some decent scary elements. However, even I require the story to make at least a little bit of sense. "The Black Cat"—or whatever other title it’s gone by—is an example of something truly irritating to watch. Director Luigi Cozzi might not be entirely responsible; maybe the producers crammed things in just for shock value... or something like that. I've often heard stories about directors being unhappy with how their films turned out because they were forced to add random creatures, murders, or ridiculous scenes—even if those additions only serve to confuse the narrative and make it more marketable. Whatever the reasons behind this mess, the film is just incredibly confusing and convoluted; it really didn't need to be that way, as a simpler telling would have sufficed. Actually, the first thirty minutes are fairly good and straightforward, but “The Black Cat” quickly becomes increasingly bizarre, with inexplicable things happening constantly until you simply stop trying to figure out what’s going on (at least, I did). It seems likely that several random scenes and shots were probably tacked in at the last minute because they were leftover footage from another movie, and someone didn't want it to go unused. That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me. The cinematography clearly draws inspiration from Dario Argento’s "Suspiria" and "Inferno"—both films are referenced—but the overly bright color scheme feels a bit much. Beyond the artificial colors, the frequent use of CGI in the second half really detracts from the visuals; it could have been so much better without it. A few inventive deaths and stylish moments can’t redeem this film from being a chaotic mess, so I'd recommend skipping it unless you just want to be amused by how strange it is. "The Black Cat" is ultimately a frustrating experience and a waste of time.
