It's a pleasant, though rather conventional narrative concerning a young Jewish girl who evades her Nazi persecutors during World War II. Disguising herself as a boy by cutting her hair and altering her behavior, she finds shelter working on an isolated farm. What makes this one stand out? Its setting in the more severe environment of Norway connects her situation to the wider struggles of the Quisling-controlled nation with Germany. The family taking in this young "boy" is also dealing with its own set of issues, which creates numerous side stories alongside the main plot. The predominantly Nordic actors deliver solid performances, though they aren’t particularly remarkable; and it presents a somewhat altered perspective on how these kinds of tales are typically told. The visuals are strikingly somber at times, and overall enhance this engaging war story.
