A very enjoyable film that I’d happily watch again and would suggest others check out. It turned out to be much better than I expected, possibly because I was prepared to dislike it from the start. It resembles "The Purge," but with alcohol and drugs involved—think Rumspringa taken to an extreme. I'm not exactly who this movie is aimed at, but when a film is so well-made, the topic almost becomes unimportant. Skyler Gisondo does an adequate job; he’s one of those actors you recognize from smaller roles, and this proves he can carry a movie. Eduardo Franco may have been uniquely suited to deliver his character's lines, even if it feels like a minor role. Grace Van Dien is essentially just the "attractive female lead," and Vince Vaughn delivers the strongest performance, which should be a warning sign for some viewers. Even those who find him amusing might not consider him an exceptional actor. It’s not the acting or writing of the characters—or even really the plot—that makes this film worthwhile. It's almost entirely due to the production quality. They probably could have cast just about anyone in the main roles with minimal character development, and we still would have ended up with a good movie. Truthfully, what elevates this movie is that someone gave a talented director some weak or average scenes and they managed to film them in a way that was lively, captivating, and entertaining; as the situations become increasingly absurd, it remains consistently refreshing. The Broadway-style musical sequence in the middle (it’s not really a spoiler—you'll see it) is amusing enough on its own to justify watching this movie. It’s a funny film; I wouldn’t necessarily call it good, but it’s certainly worth a chuckle.
