The promotional materials for this series initially made me question why they chose to revisit Outsiders. This Ponyboy feels much more like a ruthless individual. There’s a certain longing…for an earlier era! A time when men could simply socialize with other men, sport leather clothing, consume beer, use drugs, engage in sexual activity—which is presented as consensual due to the women's presence within these male social circles—and operate motorcycles. It was a more straightforward existence. That’s the environment depicted in Bikeriders. This represents traditional America. The production quality is solid and the performances are strong; it was nice to see Michael Shannon. I found it enjoyable, but I’m unsure whether I would suggest watching it. The whole thing feels rather unnecessary. Perhaps: Go along with things and refrain from upsetting young people, because they might retaliate when they assume control. Motorcycles are appealing.
