I need to be upfront about how I experienced this film; I was distracted while working at an outdoor cinema and missed portions of it. I plan to revisit _The Big Sick_ later and will offer a more considered assessment then. Even with my limited attention, I could sense some promise in what I saw—there was even one moment that genuinely made me laugh—but American comedies don't often connect with me. While I recognize this film takes a different approach than typical comedies like those starring Sandler, I didn’t feel fully engaged by what I managed to see.
