The Beyond’s special effects are decent, and the performances aren’t terrible, but the script and direction are truly hard to excuse. Many science fiction stories employ technical jargon as a way to advance the plot; however, this film is filled with lengthy, senseless speeches that consist entirely of technobabble. If you have any interest in topics like space exploration, cosmology, Maxwell's Rainbow, or science in general, you might feel that much of the dialogue is close to being meaningless rambling. The camera work is erratic and confusing; at times it’s stable, as if using a tripod, but even when stability would be appropriate—like during a local news segment with people on the street, or footage from outside the space station—the camera shakes and moves around in a way that resembles Cloverfield or The Blair Witch Project.
