I don’t believe this film warrants viewing. The only commendable aspect is Richard Gere’s acting; he’s the sole justification for giving it a chance. I feel that even strong performances aren't enough to redeem a movie, and in this case, that proved true. The narrative itself was quite simple: it centered on a man burdened by regret whose life takes an unforeseen turn that could potentially alleviate his guilt, but instead compounds it with each effort he makes. The supporting cast’s involvement represented one of the factors contributing to the film's shortcomings. They weren’t bad, exactly, but they were largely insignificant, seeming to exist solely to bolster Gere's character. The other issue was a lack of scenes that would stick with viewers—there were no memorable lines or moments to be found. There's an overall sense of monotony throughout the story. It isn’t intended as entertainment, though it could serve as something of an examination of a person's character. 5½/10
