Marina Foïs portrays "Olga" and Denis Ménochet plays her husband, “Antoine,” who have moved to a secluded Spanish farming area hoping to establish an organic livelihood. Their neighbors, portrayed by Luis Zahera as the outstanding "Xan" and Diego Anido as "Loren," quickly disapprove of their presence because they are resisting a lucrative deal from a wind turbine company that would provide financial stability and an alternative to their basic existence. What follows is one of the most skillfully crafted displays of cinematic pressure I’ve encountered. Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen lets the suspense gradually increase without triggering any obvious event. The antagonistic depiction of "Xan" is consistently unsettling, while Antoine, a former teacher, struggles to maintain his composure. When the situation finally escalates—as it was bound to—the narrative began to lose some of its impact for me, and although the final thirty minutes were emotionally affecting, they seemed less believable. Nevertheless, there's an undeniable sense of malice present that is more impactful than anything you’d find in a horror movie. The script is intelligent and insightful, providing a look at how communities can become hostile toward one another when money becomes involved, making this a notably powerful exploration of human nature and greed. Excellent cinematography contributes to the creation of a perfect setting for this unsettling drama, featuring a talented ensemble cast that works together to deliver a genuinely frightening story.
