The anticipation surrounding "The Batman" is completely justified, and it surpasses expectations. Matt Reeves has crafted a notably darker, more gripping, and realistically noir-style thriller than previous versions, featuring a relentlessly vengeful Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside a frightening, enigmatic Riddler. Greig Fraser’s cinematography—the stark “ins-and-outs” of Batman himself and the impressive visuals of Gotham—combined with Michael Giacchino's score, which is genuinely captivating, significantly enhances the film, establishing it as the most visually striking and musically memorable cinematic portrayal of Batman to date. Despite centering on detective work, the action scenes are thrilling and exceptionally well-composed. The entire ensemble cast delivers outstanding performances, particularly Paul Dano and Robert Pattinson—the latter disproves any doubts about his abilities. With the exception of a brief stretch near the conclusion of the middle section, the film’s lengthy runtime passes quickly.
