It’s a worthwhile film, one I wouldn’t mind seeing again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. This project shares the familiar elements—the actors and general style—of many Happy Madison films, but with a noticeably higher budget evident in both the character portrayals and the overall production quality. My understanding is that John McEnroe became involved at some point during its development. The performances are strikingly good or quite poor; it’s clear they tried out several concepts they had been holding onto. Combining the “rise from poverty” storyline with a depiction of New York City as rife with financial corruption proves to be an interesting combination. There's a strong screenplay buried beneath the familiar humor associated with Sandler films, and while that humor does make it entertaining, I occasionally wished there was a way to tone it down. Regardless, any moments that fail to elicit laughter or warmth are short-lived enough that they’re easily disregarded.
