The movie doesn’t hold up throughout its runtime. *The Barefoot Executive* starts off in a diverting way, establishing the story with Steven (Kurt Russell) and Raffles, the chimpanzee. It was quite pleasant and funny; the idea itself was neat. The initial portion is well-done. Still, following a so-so middle section, it delivers a rather poor final act—with too much attention given to Joe Flynn’s character, Francis, and Wally Cox's Mertons. It seemed clear they struggled with how to finish this; the concluding scenes are incredibly pointless and foreseeable. That’s disappointing, because the beginning of the film is quite good. Russell delivers a serviceable performance, while Flynn is actually fairly good when his role isn't awkwardly inserted. Heather North is fine as Jennifer, though somewhat unremarkable. The chimp is adorable, naturally. It seemed like I would really enjoy this movie initially, but it unfortunately declined in quality as it progressed. I’d still maintain that it’s superior to a lot of other Disney productions; it simply had the potential to be much better.
