It seems like that familiar saying about good intentions backfiring holds true here. The characters are making a sincere effort to reform, yet someone is actively trying to sabotage them. Their apparent path to redemption involves abandoning their newfound virtuous image and teaming up with the villainous “Kitty Kat,” who has devised an elaborate scheme to transform a spacecraft into a massive magnet designed to extract all the gold from Earth's surface. Even the potential romantic connection between "Fox" and mayor "Diane" seems unlikely to prevent the police commissioner from once again landing them in jail. They face a significant challenge, because as everyone is aware, there’s nothing more dangerous than an angry cat with high heels! The film brought to mind some of the earlier “Mission Impossible” movies, particularly regarding the focus on inventive gadgets and elaborate situations, though character development takes a backseat. Beyond a few playful wolf/fox antics, the story unfolds along a rather predictable sequence of escalating problems that inevitably point toward "Bad Guys 3." While the animation is impressive and there's plenty of action to be found, I didn’t find much in the way of originality, and I couldn’t help but wish they were simply unapologetically bad once more. This attempt at being good changes the relationships between the characters, and not for the better. My personal favorite, “Tarantula,” is noticeably underutilized, and there's also a considerable amount of dialogue. Perhaps I’ve just become accustomed to animated crime stories by now, but this one simply didn’t resonate with me. Sorry.
