I really hoped I’d like 'The Assignment' because Michelle Rodriguez is in it, but it turned out to be a pretty disappointing movie. Honestly, Rodriguez is the only good thing about it, and even that’s not saying much—she doesn't have a lot to do. The basic idea has promise, but the way they made it falls short. The parts with Sigourney Weaver and Tony Shalhoub were incredibly dull; it felt like the filmmakers were just trying too hard to seem clever. The dialogue is bad in general, but especially so for those characters. The editing isn't great either, the attempts at comic book style visuals are weak, and the scene changes feel very amateurish. This film from 2016 also has this irritating tendency to announce where every scene takes place, which makes no sense—and if you’re going to do that, pick a different font. It's an odd detail, but they used a font like what you see in TV police shows, and it clashes with the comic book style they were going for. It was supposed to be enjoyable. Unfortunately, it isn't.
