A New Mexico town experiences a devastating loss of life when many residents are discovered dead, prompting scientists to investigate the possibility of a dangerous pathogen’s presence. The source of this threat remains unclear – could it be a naturally occurring phenomenon, a virus, or something extraterrestrial linked to a recent satellite crash? Fortunately, a highly secure underground facility, complete with multiple layers of protection, is activated, bringing in “Stone” (Arthur Hill) and his team to examine the situation. The mystery deepens due to the survival of two individuals: an elderly traveler and a baby. Their immunity—or lack thereof—becomes a key element in the investigation. Through careful analysis, they begin to understand that they are dealing with a living organism exhibiting characteristics that challenge established scientific principles. As their efforts continue, they start to question whether standard security measures will be sufficient against something capable of rapidly evolving and adapting. The central question becomes: is humanity facing extinction, or can this “Andromeda” threat be neutralized through innovative approaches? While the performances are unremarkable, and the production design feels impersonal, there’s considerable depth in the scientific concepts derived from Michael Crichton's original novel. The narrative explores profound questions about life beyond Earth and whether it might exist in forms fundamentally different from what we understand. The conclusion feels somewhat hurried and avoids some potentially more significant outcomes, but overall, this is a thought-provoking science fiction film deserving of viewing.
