I found *The Amateur* to be somewhat lacking in originality and believability, but it was still a pleasant way to spend time at the cinema. It’s been quite some time since I'd seen Rami Malek on screen; my last viewing of him was *Oppenheimer*, more than a year ago. Seeing him back is definitely welcome. Malek carries the film and delivers a compelling performance, as one would anticipate. While I noted that certain aspects don’t entirely ring true—and this pertains to what's depicted within the story itself—he is convincing in his role. Laurence Fishburne and Michael Stuhlbarg also provide solid performances. I remained engaged throughout the entire film, so I really have no significant criticisms. It's simply a well-crafted movie, at least from my perspective. Following *One Life*, which was quite good, James Hawes appears to be developing into an interesting director to watch.
