‘The Aeronauts’ doesn’t break a lot of new ground, but that shouldn't take away from how good it is and what a genuinely exciting time it provides. When the film works well, it feels like ‘Gravity,’ only taking place in a hot air balloon—a really tense and impressive story about people struggling against powerful natural forces. Tom Harper did a fantastic job with Jack Thorne’s script, creating a great deal of suspense. Even though there are some problems, 'The Aeronauts' has a clear idea of the kind of movie it wants to be, and it delivers that vision effectively. If you have the opportunity to watch it in cinemas, definitely do so; those action sequences really need to be experienced on a large screen.
