The 2010 version of The A-Team seemed like an effort to bring the original series into a contemporary setting, though it didn't quite succeed. The direction emphasizes intense action, but instead of producing well-crafted scenes, it results in a jumbled mix of sound and explosions. The film’s tempo is erratic; there was an obvious attempt to make it feel cool and lively, yet it simply comes across as noisy and disorienting. There's no discernible flow to how the scenes progress, and some of the more dramatic instances lose their power because they are obscured by unsteady camera work. Regarding the visuals, the cinematography proved disappointing. The frequent use of shaky cameras, odd close-ups that only show part of a face, and rapid cuts make it difficult to appreciate the action. It seemed as though the camera was always in motion simply for the sake of movement, not to improve the scene. This kind of editing often suggests they didn't have good footage to begin with, and sadly, that’s what it appears to be. I struggled to keep track of events rather than becoming invested in the narrative. It’s a movie that confuses disorder with excitement. The actors are quite good; Liam Neeson brings his characteristic gravitas, and Bradley Cooper performs adequately, but they aren't given much material by the script. The dialogue feels unnatural, and the characters don't develop or feel fully realized. It felt as though the film assumed viewers were already familiar with these characters, so it bypassed the need to provide them with any depth. The musical score attempts to build anticipation, and while I initially detected a hint of Indiana Jones early on, that feeling disappeared when I recognized it as just a modern reworking of the original A-Team theme song. It was nostalgic, certainly, but it didn’t redeem the film. Ultimately, there's an abundance of energy, but not much depth.
