If you genuinely feel that way, replicating yourself while still around seems like a reasonable course of action. Initially criticized upon release, The 6th Day stands among the few films appearing near the close of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s acting career before his entry into politics. At the time, some felt it provided justification for him to leave movies behind; however, experiencing it now through its own unique and frenetic science fiction lens reveals a surprisingly quick-moving and entertaining film. Roger Spottiswoode directed this futuristic collection of over-the-top sequences combined with ideas that prompt reflection. The story involves Arnie as a former pilot who finds out he’s been cloned without permission, leading him on a violent quest filled with intense action to reclaim his identity while revealing the corrupt corporation responsible for this wrongdoing. Essentially, you get two Arnold Schwarzenegger's in one film. The narrative wouldn't survive deep analysis, but that isn't really what people seek out when watching an Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie, is it? The film includes clever twists, energetic action, and a finale with a genuinely unsettling impact, making The 6th Day ideal for mindless entertainment. It’s not among his very best films, nor does it revolutionize science fiction, but occasionally, uncomplicated science fiction can offer its own satisfactions when you're looking for something easy to enjoy. 6.5/10
